A great comedians traffic school is no different than any other traffic school. You don't have to wear a clown nose or sport a squirting boutonniere to be admitted. It's generally open to all drivers, regardless if you're looking to get a traffic ticket dismissed, a speeding ticket fine reduced, or a discount on car insurance. Provided the school is court- or state-approved you may be ordered, depending on the severity of your violation, to attend and complete the course by a certain date. But, in most cases, the choice will be yours. Just make sure the school is approved so as to guarantee point-reducing benefits.

Depending on your state, you may be limited to the number of times you can attend. In California, for example, drivers are restricted to one defensive driving course, funny or not, every 18 months. And if you own a CDL, you'll be out of luck. Most states do not allow commercial drivers to voluntarily enter a traffic school with the intent of having points trimmed from a traffic violation. This option, if at all, is a court decision.

A comedy defensive driving school teaches the same curriculum as a traditional online traffic school, placing heavy emphasis on safe driving tips and techniques. The only difference is that humor is incorporated into the course, usually in the form of jokes, videos and cartoons. Keep in mind before enrolling that humor is subjective. So what others may find drop-dead hysterical, you may find as sophomoric.
