How can I order criminal records?
You can obtain a criminal records history by attempting to compile the information on your own, or by using the services of a provider that specializes in obtaining this information.
While taking the former route may be the cheapest option, doing so can be time-consuming. And, if you're not skilled in this regard, you may miss valuable information and end up with an incomplete criminal records report.
If you want to undertake this task on your own, your best bet is to search through databases provided by public interest groups or watchdog associations, as well as those supplied by state or federal government agencies. Beware of some of the restrictions placed on obtaining criminal records applied by certain states, though. And, keep in mind you may need a person's Social Security number and date of birth to access some of this information.
But if you want to use a third-party to gather the information for you, you'll usually receive results that are more thorough and faster. Some sites offer free searches, but the results from these sites typically don't contain the latest information, and don't check as many sources as the paid sites.
