How can I be sure a drivers ed program is state licensed?

New Driver Checklist
The easiest way to find out depends on your age and your state; most, but not all, states require drivers license applicants to enroll in an education program, and those that do make drivers ed a requirement don’t offer the courses all in the same place.

If you’re younger than 18 and your high school offers drivers education, you can bet it’s a state-approved course. But, if your school doesn’t provide such a class or you don’t want to take the class at school, or if you’re older than 18 and don’t have access to the class, you can contact your local driver licensing agency and ask for a list of state-licensed drivers education courses or schools. Some states even post this information on their Web sites.

Keep in mind that some states – like Nevada, Pennsylvania, and Virginia – approve certain Internet-based courses, and taking driver ed online is especially convenient for busy adults who are also juggling families, households and careers. Be sure to look for approved online courses in your state’s list or ask your driver licensing agency about them.
