This depends on where you live. Each state has its own rule regarding driver ed online courses, including how final exams are administered. In Florida, for example, where you take the test is determined by age. Drivers under 18 are allowed to take the test online. Whereas, drivers over 18 must take the test at a DMV location.

Some states even go so far as requiring the drivers education exam to be taken in front of a notary public. You can find out the rules for your state by inquiring with the people administering the course, or checking with your DMV, or depending on your situation, with your court.

Before enrolling in an online driver course, be sure it's approved by your state. Only certificates from sanctioned programs will be recognized and applied towards your quest for a drivers license.
