What are the GA drivers ed requirements? Georgia

New Driver Checklist
All 16-year olds applying for a Georgia driver's license must enroll in a drivers ed school and complete 40 hours of supervised driving, six of which must occur at night. If you elect to not complete a GA drivers ed school you must wait until you're 17 before being allowed to to apply for a drivers license.

In Georgia you have three school options:

  • Public or private school with 30 hours of classroom training and six hours of behind-the-wheel instruction (must also complete 40 hours of supervised driving).
  • Public or private school with 30 hours of classroom training and a 40-hour parent-taught behind-the-wheel program.
  • Thirty hours of virtual classroom training and six hours of behind-the-wheel instruction (must also complete 40 hours of supervised driving).
  • Thirty hours of virtual classroom training and 40 hours of parent-taught behind-the-wheel instruction.

* All four options require six hours of supervised night driving.

Before enrolling check to make sure the school of your choice meets state approval. Only certificates from approved schools will be accepted. And yes, Georgia does approve of driver ed online courses.
