Will doing a sample test help me pass the drivers license test?

New Driver Checklist

Absolutely.

Here's why. Whenever you take a practice test, you reinforce the information you just learned in your mind. Plus, taking a sample test gets you in the habit of answering the information in a question-and-answer format.

By passing a few driver's license tests, you'll be more relaxed and confident when you walk into the DMV office to take the actual test. Why? Because you've already passed similar tests at home. And, as you probably know, being nervous hinders your ability to recall information, and increases the chances you'll flunk a test.

Before you take your practice tests, prepare yourself by studying your state's DMV manual. While each state covers a little different information, you generally will need to know about the following:

  • Traffic laws
  • Correct driving procedures (turns, stopping, yielding, passing, etc.)
  • Speed limits
  • Parking
  • Safety belt use
  • Child restraints
  • Traffic signs
  • Special driving situations (night, fog, rain, snow, emergency, etc.)
  • Crash reporting

If possible, take your practice tests from a couple of providers, just to give you a wider variety of questions. Remember, the more prepared you are, the more likely you'll pass the official DMV drivers license test on the first try.

Good luck!
