Is the process for renewing a permit the same as drivers license renewal?

New Driver Checklist

Learners permit renewal in most states is similar to a drivers license renewal. You must appear in person at a DMV office with proper identification, your current or expired drivers permit and cash or check to pay the renewal fee. Exact requirements vary with each state. Confirm with your DMV on needed documents.

If you allow your learners permit to expire you, in most instances, will be asked to take the written test again. If required, you can brush up on your drivers license knowledge by taking a practice permit test. These can be found online and are usually low cost or free.
