How long after I take the DMV written test will I receive a permit?
After you pass your DMV written test most states will immediately hand you a drivers permit or at least a temporary one until your permanent learners permit arrives in the mail. Bear in mind that every state is different. For the exact timeframe on receiving a permit in your state, contact your DMV office. Allow plenty of time for processing and mail delivery.
To assure passing the written exam, be sure to take at least one practice permit test. These exams mirror the actual tests, posing questions based on drivers license information found in your state's drivers manual. These tests can be found online and from a number of sites. Most are free, allowing the opportunity to take as many practice exams as you deem necessary.
